Session 56 - The price of knowledge

Returning to the team in the north, you are travelling across the ruined city of Cyfandir. A hole opened up in the sky, cold and snow pouring out. Maevis fell down ill and you had to drag her out of the snow. The hole closed and Maevis recovered. A howling of wolves was heard. Van Petrol went off scouting and from a high vantage point saw a huge pack of wolves led by a giant wolf at the edge of the woods. The giant wolf stared at you.

By taking quite a curcuitous route over bridges you made it to the library. Inside you found an ancient scene of devastation, the doors battered and rent and the skeletons of many dead elves lying on the floor.  You found a scroll detailing the foundation of Fort Vulgar by King Deyr.

The hill he founded the city on was a shrine to the Bloated Goat serviced by satyr fanatics. He destroyed the shrine when he founded the city. He was a great sorcerer king and gifted his followers masks of great power. Together they challenged the Seelie and Unseelie courts for rule of the Black Goat Wood. He despite many battles he never achieved thatin his lifetime and his descendents were but imitations of his might. The masks disappeared when he died.

The entrance room to the library had many doors leading off. You made a search of many of them, with Dan falling through a floor on the balcony and the party getting attacked by a green slime.

The other books you found were Cyrilian’s Guide to Binding Spirits into Swords and a huge tome on Aldrya the goddess of the elves. The book on binding spirits into swords details the location of the Temple of a Thousand Swords where a forge of power resides.

You are yet to open the rooms marked New Gods and Natural History. However on opening the door marked Gods you came upon some creatures.

Their curling, vertically-oriented bodies look like thick translucent smoke, or running wax from multiple candles, fouled and merging together as one. The torsos curve like question marks, only a few feet of frictive tail pressing into the earth. Their substance is fluxal, tough and dense, much more than normal flesh. Slim whiplike tentacles undulate oddly and poke out from their body at mad angles. Their heads are horrible, like slim squid with flickering gnathopods and black fishlike eyes drilled in an eerie skull.
